Few cities mark midnight like Dubai. On New Year’s Eve, Downtown Dubai traditionally becomes the focus of the celebrations, with fireworks at the Burj Khalifa watched by crowds below and by guests on terraces, in restaurants and on yachts across the city.

The difference between a memorable night and a long, crowded one is planning: where you will be at midnight, how you will get there, and how you will get home. This guide covers the choices, and how we can arrange them.

Where to watch

A room or table with a view of the Burj Khalifa

Hotel rooms and restaurants facing the tower in Downtown are the most sought-after places to see the midnight display, and New Year packages often require a minimum stay or a set menu. They are typically sold out well before December.

On the water

A yacht off the coast, chartered through a licensed operator, offers a private view of the city and its fireworks, away from the crowds. Charters for New Year’s Eve are in high demand and priced as a special occasion.

Away from Downtown

Fireworks are traditionally held at several landmarks across Dubai and the wider UAE. For a calmer evening, a beach club, a desert dinner beneath the stars or a terrace at a resort on the Palm can be just as memorable.

Most of Dubai’s leading restaurants offer a New Year’s Eve set menu, often with entertainment, and many require pre-payment. We shortlist options that suit your group, from a quiet dinner for two to a private room for twenty, and secure the table early.

Getting around on the night

Downtown Dubai is busy on New Year’s Eve, with road closures and restricted access around the Burj Khalifa in the hours before midnight. Plan to arrive early, and rely on a chauffeur who knows the closures rather than looking for a taxi after midnight. We arrange drivers who wait for you and a route home that avoids the worst of the traffic.

The winter season around it

December is one of the best months to be in the UAE. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix closes the Formula 1 season from 3 to 6 December (read our Grand Prix guide), and the Dubai Shopping Festival brings events and offers across the city through December and January (our guide). Many families combine a week of winter sun with a few days in the desert.
